9/11 Memorial Stair Climb on campus this Saturday

Posted on September 08, 2021

This year marks the 20th anniversary of 9/11, and to honor the 2,977 lives lost, the UNCG Police Department is inviting the campus community to join them in a Memorial Stair Climb this Saturday at the UNCG Soccer Stadium.

Check-in will begin at 7:30 a.m., and the climb will begin at 8:46 a.m., coinciding with the time the first plane struck the North Tower. Participants will climb 110 flights of stairs simulating the heroic distance first responders had to travel inside the World Trade Center that day.

“Being from New York, the events that happened on 9/11/2001 are very close to my heart,” says Detective J.J. Young, who is leading the event. “The events affected and still impact my family, friends, and coworkers.  After independently doing my own stair climb each year, I thought bringing the stair climb to campus would be a great way for UNCG and the surrounding community to remember 9/11, especially on the 20th anniversary.”
