It’s not every day that you appear in two top television shows on the same network in the same month. Yet that’s just what has happened for UNCG alumnus Tyler Barnhardt ’15. He’s the top-billed guest star in tonight’s episode of the CBS drama “Bull,” and has a guest starring role in “Scorpion” next week.
Barnhardt is no stranger to the fast track. Just three months after graduation, he was in Atlanta filming a pilot for ABC and since then has had guest star roles on television and on stage, including a recurring role on “Underground” with UNCG School of Theatre alumnus Chris Chalk ’01.
For the Matthews, North Carolina, native, the journey has been an exciting whirlwind of learning and meeting some of the industry’s best and brightest. Michael Weatherly, the actor who plays title character “Bull,” is a great guy, very down-to-earth and funny, Barnhardt says.
Looking back, Barnhardt attributes his experience at UNCG as the catalyst to where he is today.
“I stay in touch with [UNCG School of Theater professor] Michael Flannery, who taught me so much and continues to be a mentor today,” he says. “He’s an actor, and he just gets it.”
Tonight’s episode of “Bull” also features fellow School of Theatre alumnus Geoff Schuppert ’00 MFA, who is a principal actor on the show.
“It is not often you get two alumni performing together on screen,” says Dr. John R. Poole, director of the School of Theatre.
Want to watch? “Bull” airs at 9 p.m. on Tuesdays. Barnhardt’s “Scorpion” episode airs on Monday, Oct. 16, at 10 p.m.
