Tal Blevins ’95 is the owner of Machete, a restaurant recently named one of the Top 20 in the country by Yelp and honored as a semifinalist by the James Beard Foundation. His background includes 20 years as a tech journalist, and he can trace his multidimensional success back to his UNCG experience in the geography program. And it’s the stories, the places, and the flavors of the world that inspire him.

For more than a decade, Dr. Marianne LeGreco, in the Department of Communication Studies, has been one of the driving forces behind local food security initiatives, including urban garden projects, fresh food mobile markets, entrepreneurship programs, and culinary workshops. With UNCG support, the SNAP benefits “Green for Greens” program helped the local community and farmers markets weather the pandemic.
