021010NewsAndNotes_StywallSenior basketball player Ben Stywall has had quite a year. He is in the top 10 in scoring in the SoCon, at 14.3 points per game. As for rebounding, he recently moved into third place on the school’s career rebounding list, passing Eric Cuthrell. He leads the SoCon in rebounding, with about 10.5 per game.

When a player scores at least 10 points and gets at least 10 rebounds in a game, that’s a “double-double.” Stywall’s 11 double-doubles so far this season is tied for the second-most in UNCG history. Kyle Hines holds the record with 14.

The last player in the SoCon to finish the season averaging a double-double (overall) was Eric Mann from VMI (13.5 ppg, 10.5 rpg) in 2000-01. No Spartan has ever averaged a double-double for the season, Mike Hirschman (Athletics) points out

Stywall’s 11 double-doubles this season lead the SoCon.

He is 13th in the nation in rebounding and 19th in double-doubles.
