For the fifth year in a row, Military Times has recognized UNC Greensboro for its commitment to serving veteran students with excellence.

The University was ranked No. 51 out of 134 institutions on the publication’s Best for Vets: Colleges 2020 list, the most comprehensive school-by-school assessment of veteran and military student services and rates of academic achievement. UNCG had the second-highest ranking of North Carolina colleges and universities.

Military Times’ annual Best for Vets: Colleges list analyzes services for veterans and the academic success of veterans and military personnel at more than 600 colleges and universities across the nation. Institutions were evaluated in five categories: university culture, student support, academic policies, academic outcomes/quality, and cost and financial aid. Using self-reported data, as well as data from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, the Department of Defense, and the Department of Education, Military Times compiles a comprehensive list of the best schools for veterans in the U.S.

UNCG serves approximately 1,500 military-affiliated students – a number that includes service members, veterans, and their dependents. UNCG’s Office of Military-Affiliated Services serves as a one-stop shop for future, current, and past military-affiliated students. UNCG’s military-affiliated students have access to the Student Veterans Association, various campus resources, and numerous scholarship opportunities. In addition, UNCG’s Veteran Access Program provides medically-trained veterans an accelerated track to a career in nursing.

College Factual ranks UNCG No. 285 out of more than 1,700 institutions and No. 19 in North Carolina in their Top Colleges for Veterans: Nationwide list. Earlier this year, UNCG’s music and physical education programs were recognized as the top programs of their kind in the state for veterans in the 2019 College Factual rankings. UNCG’s physical education and health teacher education program ranks No. 1 in North Carolina for veteran friendliness and No. 9 in the nation. Programs in the School of Music rank No. 1 in the state and No. 43 nationally. UNCG also ranks among the top 15 percent of colleges and universities nationwide in the “College Overall – Best For Veterans” category.

UNCG was also named a Military Friendly School by VIQTORY this year and was one of just two UNC System institutions to receive a “Gold” distinction.
