Dr. Emily Stamey (Weatherspoon Art Museum) received new funding from the National Endowment for the Arts for the project “To the Hoop: Basketball and Contemporary Art.”
This funding will support the exhibition “To the Hoop: Basketball and Contemporary Art,” organized by the Weatherspoon Art Museum and timed to coincide with its city’s hosting of NCAA tournament games in 2020. The exhibition will allow the museum to connect with new audiences through a theme that is beloved in the region, while also engaging important social issues–including identity politics, economics, and commercial culture. The exhibition is expected to reach 15,000 people in Greensboro, then continue its reach on a national tour.
