Dr. Charles Pressley Roberts Tisdale died March 17.
He taught medieval literature in UNCG’s Department of English for more than 30 years and also served as associate department head, co-founder and head of the Residential Learning College, dean of Academic Advising, and chair of the Faculty Senate. He received the Gladys S. Bullard Award for Service upon his retirement in 2005.
Dr. Tisdale was a dedicated teacher who cared deeply about his students, many of whom remember the liveliness he brought to the study of Old English, including holding potluck medieval feasts to accompany final project presentations.
He wrote and published poetry, and a novel, and he also taught Latin and photography in for a middle school in Rockingham County and continued to offer humanities seminars at UNCG.
Tisdale requested that some of his ashes be distributed on UNCG’s campus.
