In Memoriam: Chelsea Bunch

Posted on May 19, 2021

Chelsea Ann Bunch Burke, Assistant Registrar for Strategic Scheduling in the University Registrar’s Office, died May 16.

She was a double UNCG alumna with a bachelor of arts in international and global studies and a master of arts in applied arts and sciences.

She became a member of the URO team in 2009 as a graduation clearance specialist. She then held roles as a degree audit specialist and classroom scheduler before assuming the role of assistant registrar for strategic scheduling in 2019. She worked with many people across campus.

Colleague Tim Cripe contributed the following memories:

“In her 12 years with the university, Chelsea was known to many staff and faculty across campus as a conscientious advocate for students and a dependable and knowledgeable resource within the Registrar’s Office. The joy she felt when students succeeded was evident in her celebrations of their accomplishments.

Her Halloween costumes are legendary and brought her multiple victories in the annual office contest sponsored by the Good Vibes Committee, of which she was a key member.

Outside of UNCG, Chelsea was a standout athlete who played in the upper-level groups of USTA tennis ranking system in singles and doubles. She loved animals and was an advocate for their well being and humane treatment.

Most of all, Chelsea was known for her warmth and compassion for everyone she met.”

A celebration of life for Chelsea Ann Bunch Burke and her infant son, Winslow Chandler Burke, will take place at 1234 Marshallberg Road, Marshallberg, NC, on Sunday, June 27, beginning at 2 p.m. The outdoor gathering will start with thoughts shared by Rev. Catherine Klein, Unity minister who officiated at Chelsea and Eric’s wedding, and family members, followed with thoughts and remembrances of Chelsea that the family hopes friends will share. Inclement weather might change locations and guests will be directed to the venue change.

Following the service, guests will share a potluck meal of entrees provided by the family and side dishes and desserts brought in potluck fashion by guests who would like to contribute.

Because of Chelsea’s love of flowers and gardening, those who would like to bring cut flowers to celebrate the life of she and her son are encouraged to do so.

Please dress comfortably in cheery attire for a hot, humid, perhaps rainy late June day on the coast. Everyone touched by Chelsea’s life is welcome.

Chelsea’s colleagues have created a Kudoboard here where friends can share memories of her.
