In Memoriam: Kay Lovelace

Posted on November 29, 2021

Kay Lovelace, associate professor in the Department of Public Health Education, passed away November 23.
Lovelace had worked at UNCG since 1995. She was an industrious researcher who focused on a variety of public health issues, including public health infrastructure, organizational health, and informatics as a collaborative process to build forward-looking health departments.

Her achievements as a scholar were bracketed by an award in 1999 for Outstanding Empirical Paper at the annual meeting of the International Association of Conflict Management, San Sebastian-Donostia, Spain, and in 2015 by a prestigious Robert Wood Johnson Foundation grant. This grant supported her investigation into the prevalence and efficacy of the use of evidence-based decision-making by local public health organizations.

Most recently, she was engaging photography and other visual methods in social science research to represent the lived experiences of refugees and immigrants.

Dean of the School of Health and Human Sciences Carl Mattacola shared, “Kay embodied a steadfast commitment to organizational change. As a colleague of Kay expressed, her passion and hope for change – not just that we must change but also that we can change – grounded Kay’s sensibility within the world. Her bright smile and deeply caring personality will be greatly missed.”

The family plans to hold a memorial and celebration of her life at a later date in the spring of 2022.
