In Memoriam: Pam Howe

Posted on February 02, 2021

Pam Howe, educational technology consultant in the School of Health and Human Sciences (HHS), died Jan. 30.

Howe joined UNCG in 2000 and served UNCG for more than 20 years. She worked closely with students and faculty in HHS, helping develop pedagogical strategies to promote information literacy and technological skills. Her colleagues remember how she addressed challenges with patience, kindness, and humor, and several have shared their thoughts below:

“Pam worked closely with students and faculty for many years – sometimes getting them ‘off the ledge’ when it came to particular challenges, whether it was helping students with connectivity issues or faculty learning new apps. Pam worked tirelessly to support her HHS family. Pam was more than a valued colleague. She had a gentle demeanor, with a warm smile and dry wit. She made me laugh even in her time of pain. While I only knew her for a short period of time, she touched my life with her gentleness and positive attitude in the face of all of the challenges placed before her.”
-HHS Dean Carl Mattacola

“Pam Howe was the kind of teammate that you hope for. She was unfailingly kind, even when things got tough for her. She had a way of lightening the mood in a meeting with a joke or a comment, her warmth, humor and willingness to see the best in people was an inspiration to me. I enjoyed laughing with her.”
-Michelle Folkman

“Pam was one of the most genuine people I’ve ever met. She was so giving, whether it was with her knowledge (she could solve about any technical problem anyone in the School had), time, or just random kindness. She was funny and honest.”
-Dr. Kathleen Williams
