International Education Week is Nov. 1-5

UNC Greensboro’s International Programs Center (IPC) will celebrate International Education Week with a variety of events Nov. 1-5 that highlight diversity and international exchange.

An international photo contest is also part of the celebration. Students, faculty and staff were invited to submit pictures that highlight the photographer immersed in the experience and culture of another place. Voting is ongoing and open to the entire UNCG community. Check out the entries and vote here.

A full week of events is planned, and a sample of daily highlights include:

Monday, Nov. 1

  • 10-11:30 a.m., IPC Faculty and Staff Appreciation: Drop by at Faculty Center for coffee and snacks. 
  • 2-3 p.m. (virtual), Insights Into Ethiopian Culture: UNCG student and iAmbassador Abraham Gebreselassie shares his culture and experience moving to the United States.
  • 7-8 p.m. (virtual), Every Second Counts for the Survivors – Hibakusha Testimonial: A survivor of the atomic bomb in Japan shares their testimony and experiences of nuclear weapons, disarmament, and human rights. 

Tuesday, Nov. 2

  • 11 a.m.-2 p.m., A Taste of the World at Fountain View: Enjoy food from around the world.
  • 12-1 p.m. (virtual), Our Experiences at UNCG: International student panel discussion.
  • 4-5 p.m. (virtual), LGBTQ+ & Abroad: Former study abroad students from LGBTQ+ identity groups share their experiences. 

Wednesday, Nov 3

  • 10:30-11:30 a.m., The Seven Masters Exhibit: A tour at the Weatherspoon Art Museum.
  • 12-1 p.m. (virtual), International Faculty and Staff Network Luncheon: All faculty and staff are welcome to come for conversation and cultural exchange.
  • 3-4 p.m. (virtual), Brown and Abroad: Study abroad returnee Tori Stout shares her experiences as an African American in South Korea. This event offers a safe space that recognizes, values, and honors the global experiences of students of color.

Thursday, Nov. 4

  • 10-11:00 a.m. (virtual), Boren Awards Info Session:  The Boren awards, worth up to $25,000, fund students who take significant study of critical languages and are committed to public service.
  • 4-5 p.m. (virtual), Teaching English Abroad Info Session: Find out how to make a wonderful and life changing experience a reality.  

Friday, Nov. 5

  • 1-2 p.m., Diwali Sand Art at the RAWK: Celebrate Diwali – New Year’s Day in the Hindu tradition – by helping create Rangoli Sand Art. 
  • 4-6 p.m., Sports Around the World at the Kaplan Center: Learn about and try sports from different countries.
