Double bass player and director of UNC Greensboro’s Miles Davis Jazz Studies Program Steve Haines is featured on a new album by legendary drummer and composer Joe Chambers, “Samba De Maracatu” from Blue Note Records.

Chambers’ career spans six decades and the multi-instrumentalist has recorded many albums with a variety of jazz grand masters with Blue Note, starting in the 1960s. Haines describes playing on the album as one of the biggest highlights of his career.

“Playing in his band while living in New York City was a tremendous honor and learning experience for me,” he said. “Mr. Chambers has a depth of knowledge about so many cultures of music from all the world. The recording for Blue Note was very special for me, and very fortuitous, as I was able to observe him in his element.”
