Anthony (Tony) DeCasper, Professor Emeritus of Developmental Psychology at UNCG, died on July 4. He joined the faculty of UNCG in the mid-1970s, and retired 2012. His scientific career is marked by his ground-breaking research demonstrating how prenatal and neonatal auditory perceptual experiences contribute to the development of human cognitive abilities. He devised a research strategy that was able to reveal the prenatal mechanisms of learning and memory that establish the neonatal abilities essential for the continued development of the infant.
