In honor of Martin Luther King Jr., UNC Greensboro is teaming up with the Greensboro Swarm for a special afternoon of basketball and remembrance.

“MLK Jr. Day at the Swarm presented by UNCG” will take place Monday, Jan. 21, when the Swarm, the NBA G League affiliate team of the Charlotte Hornets, face off against the Canton Charge. Tip-off for the game is 2 p.m.

At 1:25 p.m., UNCG student Jordan Speas will recite a portion of King’s famous “I Have a Dream” speech. Just before tip-off, the UNCG Spartones a capella group will perform an MLK tribute song, in addition to the national anthem.

Throughout the game, free UNCG swag will be given out to fans, and attendees wearing blue and gold will have the opportunity to participate in on-court contests.

Additionally, Chancellor Franklin D. Gilliam, Jr. will serve as the Swarm’s honorary captain.

Student tickets are 50 percent off at the box office with a valid UNCG student ID. A shuttle will provide students transportation to and from the game. The shuttle will run in a continuous loop from 1:30-4 p.m. Students interested in transportation should meet at the loop adjacent to the Elliott University Center.
