UNCG alumnus and former track standout Paul Chelimo added another highlight to his career Friday night as he won the 5,000-meter race at the USA Track and Field (USATF) Outdoor Championships. Next month, Chelimo will travel to London to compete in the World Championships.
Chelimo’s time of 13:08.62 marked the second-fastest 5,000 meter of his career, behind only his silver medal performance of 13:03.9 at the 2016 Rio Olympics. The win is also his first career U.S. outdoor title. He won his first-ever U.S. title in the two-mile race at the USATF Indoor Championships in March.
