UNC Greensboro’s transition to online teaching and learning during the pandemic has prompted faculty, staff, and students to find creative ways to utilize digital tools. Applications such as Zoom not only host our daily meetings, but can become spaces for creative expression and virtual collaboration with our colleagues and classmates near and far.

One medium that easily lends itself to such remote creative engagement is podcasting. UNCG’s “Yes, and Cafe” podcast, which is usually recorded in the production studio within the University Teaching & Learning Commons, has moved to fully remote production during social distancing. The podcast continues to engage researchers, students, and special guests from beyond the University on what it means to build and create together.

Three new episodes from the “Yes, and Cafe” podcast take a look at student and faculty challenges and successes during the pandemic, the work (and a song!) of a virologist, and local food community research and activism.

Virologist Steve Polyak performs an original song about COVID-19 on the show.
Chemistry & Biochemistry Ph.D student Gabby Dailey

Episode 5: Hear from virologist Steve Polyak from the University of Washington as he discusses his work with COVID-19, and hear the original song he composed about the virus as he performs live on the show. UNCG Ph.D. student Gabby Dailey joins the discussion as well.

Marianne LeGreco (2nd from L) conversing with visitors at The Corner Farmers Market.
Ph.D. student and GSA president Derick Jones mentors fellow students in the lab.

Episode 6: Educator and local food activist/organizer Marianne LeGreco (Communication Studies) talks about her work with local food resources and networks, and is joined by Graduate Student Association president and Chemistry & Biochemistry Ph.D student Derick Jones.

Student James Stephens joins the discussion.
