This week, MacArthur fellow, pianist, composer, and historian Reginald Robinson visits the UNC Greensboro School of Music and play several concerts in Tew Recital Hall and a closing event at the nearby Double Oaks Bed & Breakfast. He will be joined in one concert by Professor Emeritus and pianist Paul Stewart.

At Robinson’s Friday performance and talk at Tew Recital Hall, he will perform some of his original compositions along with some vintage ragtime works, discuss the correct tempos to use for ragtime, and talk about his own compositional and arranging process. There will also be time for a Q & A. UNCG piano student A.J. Lyon will also perform a ragtime composition.

“Reginald Robinson’s unique and versatile skills make him a wonderful artist to speak to pianists, jazz students, and composition students who will all be in attendance,” said UNCG Assistant Professor of piano Annie Jeng, who helped facilitate the concerts and visit. “So much of America’s musical history is rooted in the Blues and ragtime music. I’m hoping that students will be inspired by Reginald Robinson’s playing and his words, to find value and meaning in performing and studying this important genre of music.”
