The Elliott University Center’s Azalea Room was a palette of colors last Monday for the annual Empty Bowls Sale to benefit Spartan Open Pantry.
The bowls, hand painted by UNC Greensboro student, faculty, staff, and alumni volunteers, sold for $5 each.
The fundraiser is organized each year in a joint effort by the Office of Leadership and Civic Engagement, the Office of Intercultural Engagement, Campus Activities & Programs, and Housing and Residence Life. The event offered students a service and awareness opportunity in recognition of National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week Nov. 11-19.
The offices host several bowl-painting projects throughout the year. This year, one of the painting parties was a reunion activity for UNCG alumni in the class of 1968.
By mid-afternoon on Monday, most of the bowls had been purchased.
Funds from the event go directly to Spartan Open Pantry, which distributed approximately 11,000 pounds of food to UNCG students, faculty, and staff in need last academic year.
