Tutor training program recertified

Posted on November 02, 2021

The Division of Student Success’s Academic Achievement Center (AAC) and Office of TRiO Programs received recertification for their tutor training program by The College Reading and Learning Association’s International Tutor Training Program Certification (ITTPC). The training curriculum is co-designed by Erin Morrison (AAC) and Emily DiRoma (formerly Student Support Services).

ITTPC certifies tutor training programs in postsecondary educational institutions. Once granted CRLA certification, the tutor training programs each have the authority to recognize their tutors as having met the approved ITTPC tutor training program requirements.

A training program has to meet the highest standards for the selection, training, and supervision of peer tutors to be CRLA-certified by the ITTPC. The joint AAC/SSS program is certified at all three levels – basic, advanced, and master – which represents over 30 hours of training. The application process can take up to six months to complete and involves a comprehensive peer-review process. Fewer than 1,000 programs worldwide are currently certified at all three levels.
