URSCO Fellows:

The URSCO seeks applications for 4 – 5 UNCG teaching faculty and/or staff members to serve as URSCO Fellows for the 2021-22 academic year to integrate research-skills and/or experiences into first- and second-year undergraduate courses, especially those that serve UNCG’s General Education program (Minerva’s Academic Curriculum). Fellows will receive $1,000.

FUNDING: URCA Spring 2022 – accepting proposals through Oct 3

We will be accepting requests for support (up to $3,500) through the URCA (Undergraduate Research and Creativity Award) fund for Spring 2022.  

Don’t miss this October 3 deadline.  

(Full Summer requests are due Feb 13.)

SNCURCS

The State of North Carolina Undergraduate Research and Creativity Symposium (SNCURCS) will begin accepting abstracts in September for student participation in the November 13 virtual conference. The 17th Annual SNCURCS will be held virtually and is co-hosted by Elon University, Catawba College, and Livingstone College.  

Abstract Portal Opens: September 13

Abstract Submission Deadline: October 15

Let’s have a great showing of our student scholars at this year’s SNCURCS.

Undergraduate Research Grants

Application Information — deadline: October 9, 2021 at 12:00 pm (Noon) EST

The George Barthalmus Undergraduate Research Awards have been developed to promote early involvement in the research process through support of sophomores in a research project of their design.  These awards are designed to assist students with development and engagement in undergraduate research.  Students from all disciplines are invited to apply for the awards.

·         Awards will be made to sophomores only.

·         Students must be US Citizens.

·         Proposals will be reviewed by faculty familiar with the field of study (discipline).

·         Recommendations for funding will be considered by a committee appointed by the SNCURCS advisory board.

·         Students will be notified approximately 1 week prior to the fall symposium.

o    Awards will be presented during the fall symposium.

o    Students are encouraged to apply for $100 – $500.

o    The maximum award would be $500

·         Students will be expected to participate in the symposium the following year.

URSCO Student Travel Grants – Virtual Conferences,TOO

The Undergraduate Research, Scholarship and Creativity Office has limited resources to support student “travel” to disseminate results of scholarly inquiry at conferences/exhibitions.  Support can include the cost of travel, room, board, and registration for virtual conferences.  The typical maximum award is $500.  Requests are due by the 1st of each month, with award announcement by month’s end.  Funds are distributed as a reimbursement upon the completion of [travel and] presentation.

Carolyn and Norwood Thomas Undergraduate Research and Creativity Expo

As you know, the URSCO hosts UNCG’s annual celebration of undergraduate student scholarship. 


Planned presentation formats include Posters, Oral, Scholarly Performance/Film, Music or Video Productions, and Exhibit/Display

We hope to see representation of scholarship from every department on campus!

·         We begin accepting abstracts: January 25

·         Abstract deadline: February 23

·         ALL UNCG undergraduates engaged in course-based and/or faculty-mentored inquiry are encouraged to participate.

SAVE THE DATE for the 16th Annual Thomas Undergraduate Research and Creativity Expo planned for Thursday April 14, 2022.
